Editing Services

I am so excited to be able to offer this service!

Why am I the best person to edit your “baby”?

I love reading someone’s work in detail, looking for a seamless plot and concise writing, as well as correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation to make the author’s work shine.

I have taken numerous writing and editing classes, and I  stay up-to-date on the latest editing news and guidelines. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

And I have edited countless manuscripts for developmental editing, copy editing, and proofreading.

How do you take advantage of my editorial services?

I’m so glad you asked!

Below are my rates, turnaround timetable, and what you can expect from me.

(By the way, my editing services are for fiction manuscripts only.)

  • First, send me a comment in the box below, letting me know of your interest.
  • As soon as you hear back from me, send me your first chapter–up to 20 pages–in Microsoft Word .docx or .doc format (double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins). Please include a cover sheet with your contact information, as well as a header on each page with your name, manuscript title, and page number. (For example: Harper/Wisdom and Folly:Sisters/Page 1)
  • I will edit those and send them back to you within three weeks.
  • If you like how I edit and I like how you write, we will sign an agreement, and you may send me your complete manuscript!
  • Funds will be transferred through Paypal.
  • Once I receive those funds–and your manuscript–I will devote myself to editing your masterpiece.
  • Turnaround time will be between two and three months.
  • Rates? My goal is to make an affordable professional editing service available to first-time authors. Rates are as follows:
  • $0.005 cents per word. (For example: If you have a 100,000 word manuscript, it will cost $500.)

Please keep in mind due to the low cost and longer turnaround rate, I may not be able to accept every manuscript.

Now, a few guidelines.

  • Keep it clean. I don’t want to cringe every time there’s a crazy sex scene, gore, or filthy language. I’m all for romance, adventure (and yes, sometimes that includes blood), and I don’t mind a few tasteful expletives–if you truly think the situation calls for it–but I absolutely will not edit erotica, horror, or a work overflowing with f-bombs.  I just won’t do it. But I love almost anything well-written with a smashing story!
  • I will edit using track changes in Word. If you are unfamiliar with track changes, I will include a short tutorial at the beginning of your manuscript.
  • As the author, it is up to you to implement the changes I suggest. I will let you know when something is my opinion vs. industry standard.  I want your voice to speak through your work, not mine.
  • Please let me know if there is anything specific you wish me to look for in your manuscript. I welcome all questions and feedback!
  • If I have a question about usage, I refer to Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition, The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition, The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style, Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style, and Proofreading Secrets of Best-Selling Authors by Kathy Ide.

Please contact me if this interests you. I look forward to working with you!

In Him,

Michele
